Join us for our first hike of the season this Saturday June 13th at noon.
I have been loving this warm weather! My summer goal is to spend as much time outdoors as possible. At least once a month I am organizing a group hike. These will start close to home with short, 3-4 mile flat strolls and we will work our way up to longer and more difficult hikes. We start this weekend at Steigerwald Lake Wildlife Refuge. This will be my first time to this area, and from what I’ve heard we are in for a treat. This flat, easy trail along the water is a short drive from Portland and a good spot for birding with views of the Columbia.
We will be leaving Sellwood around noon. You are welcome to carpool with us or drive yourself. Plan to be gone from noon to 5 pm. Please bring water and a snack for yourself. Also wear or bring clothes and shoes that can get wet. Depending on the weather we may stop for a dip along the way.

Can you feel the days getting shorter and the nights cooler? Anybody else feeling the urge to get out while the getting is good?
Join us for an end of summer hike to Pup Creek Falls this Sunday August 31st. We are carpooling, leaving from Sellwood at 10 am (more info below).
Our last hike to Opal Creek in June was delightful despite getting sprinkled on. Here are some photos.
We walked along the creek for part the hike and were surrounded by towering old growth Douglas Firs.
This Sunday we head southeast to Clackamas county. This will be my first time to Pup Creek Falls. An out and back, we will take the Clackamas River Trail about 3.5 miles to the waterfall, then turn around. The total distance will be 7 + miles. We will move at a fairly leisurely pace and take plenty of rest and snack breaks.
Call Anne for more info. (503) 705-4762.

My buddy Laura and I headed out for a lunch time hike at the Hoyt Arboretum last week. Here are some shots of the fall color…
Can you see Mt. St. Helens?
Yup she’s in a tank top in October!
It looks like today (Thursday) is our best bet for sun this week. What are your favorite in town hiking spots? Could you get out for a quick walk at lunch or after work? Call me if you would like motivation or a walking buddy.
Join us for a Columbia Gorge hike this Saturday July 14th. We leave from Sellwood at noon. Call Anne if you are interested in joining us or carpooling. 503-705-4762
This month I found a new (to me) trail, Wachlella Falls. This is the perfect hike to take out of town visitors who are looking for an easy, short hike (just over an hour total) that passes some amazing waterfalls. This hike is kid friendly and a good spot for a picnic. I plan on doing more of these this summer. Contact me if you are interested in joining us.
