Three Tips For Staying Healthy

The coronavirus has arrived in Portland. What does that mean for you and me? For me, this means a wonderful opportunity to communicate with you about self care. What can you do to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy?

  1. Frequent hand washing. First, and most important – wash your hands! I am asking everyone to wash their hands when they enter the studio. This is a great habit to get into. Come home from the grocery store – wash your hands. Just walked the dog – wash your hands. Used the restroom – wash your hands. About to prepare food – for sure wash your hands. You get the idea. How you wash and the length of time you spend washing is important. I’m not talking like you told your kid to wash up for dinner and he showed his hands to the faucet for .5 seconds. Really get in there with soap and water, working your fingernails, in between each finger, the front and back of your hands, and your wrists, for at least 20 seconds.
  2. Regularly disinfect surfaces like doorknobs, computer keyboards, and your phone. You can use disinfectant wipes, or 70% alcohol, or a vinegar and water solution (see below for recipes).
  3. Stay home if you are sick. Sniffle, runny nose, tickle in your throat, feeling extra tired, and not sure if it’s allergies or a cold? Don’t chance it – stay home.

If you have not yet checked out The Five videos, NOW is the time! Each video is only $5! The whole year’s worth of the Five are up, that’s a catalog of 60 exercises! If you don’t see something on the list that you would like covered, or if you’d like for me to meet with your group privately, shoot me an email to schedule a workshop at your convenience.

Love Your Feet – February 22nd. Do you have bunions, plantar fasciitis, fallen arches, or foot pain? Are your feet in great shape, and you’d like to be papered? This workshop is for you! We start with a warm foot soak, then a gentle scrub, then mobility and strength exercises, and self massage.

Better Balance – April 18th. Are you afraid of falling? The likelihood is that at some point we are all going to fall. How do you minimize the chance of serious injury like a broken bone? Conquer your fear of falling through rolling exercises that remind your body how to crumple to the ground like a child.

Foam Roller – May 16th. Do you suffer from tight, sore muscles? Want an easy to learn program you can do at home in between massage appointments to keep your muscles supple? Learn Anne’s “top ten” foam roller exercises that include release work, stabilization, and strength and balance training.

  • Who: you (and your friends!)
  • What: 90 minute class that includes a handout and/ or video. Be prepared to move your body, not necessarily a sweaty workout, but wear comfy clothes, like sweats or yoga pants. You will have the most success if you are currently able to get up and down from the floor with relative ease (but if you can’t no worries, I will offer modifications).
  • When: Saturdays from noon to 1:30 (specific dates above)
  • Where: From the comfort of your own home! All classes and workshops are now virtual! Call or email Anne if you need a foam roller.
  • How much: One person for $35, two people attending the same workshop for $60 (per workshop).

Client Testimonial – Creative, Adaptive, Personalized Training

One of my ladies recently sent me this testimonial. What a sweetie!

Anne McCranie is a personal trainer in every sense of the title. She starts where you are, even if you are limited by physical ailments. She is creative: if it doesn’t work for you standing, try sitting. If you need to hold on to a post, do so. Her descriptions of the exercises allow me to work at home. Her warmth and wit make every class worthwhile.

Who do you know who is recovering from an injury or surgery? Send your special person my way. I will work with their physical therapist to see that they safely regain strength, mobility, and body awareness.

Anne McCranie is a Portland based Personal Trainer and Licensed Massage Therapist. She works with her clients one on one and in small groups using a combination of movement + massage to aid in pain relief, build strength, and improve body composition.
